Movie week was upon us (thankfully without Donny Osmond) but who were your Oscar winning performances this week and who deserved a Golden Raspberry? Once again to keep you amused whilst we wait for this week’s (hopefully 100% accurate) spoiler to come in here’s a poll where you can tell me who your favourites were this week.
I may want to put this weekend behind us for obvious reasons but we should probably still take a look back at the 2nd week’s show and the performances from that show.
All the couples got a bye into week 2 and danced a second time during a 2 hour live show before facing the public vote and being eliminated during Sunday’s not live results show.
Jamelia and Tristan
First up were Jamelia and Tristan who this week had a Cha Cha to “Don’t Cha”. Both the BBC pun machine and the BBC irony machine working overtime tonight as I’m sure many people wished they hadn’t Cha’d!
The judges weren’t too impressed with this rating it 21 (Craig 4, Darcey 6, Len 5, Bruno 6) which was the same as she scored last week putting her on 42 points overall.
Daniel and Kristina
Next up was the rather bland Daniel O’Donnell and Kristina who met Daniel’s wife in the VT this week (and off camera his wife probably marked her territory). This week they had a Charleston to Let’s Misbehave. Daniel’s wife will be hoping they don’t take the song choice too literally.
Again scoring similarly to last week with the judges Daniel this week achieved a 23 (Craig 5, Darcey 6, Len 6, Bruno 6) putting his total score for the first couple of weeks up to 47.
Kirsty and Brendan
It definitely seems as though the BBC are saving the best performers until later in the show as it was the turn of Kirsty and Brendan who had a poor first dance. This week they had a Salsa to Can’t Touch It.
Yet again consistency seems to be the judges byword as again a similar (or this case the same) score of 20 is achieved (Craig 5, Darcey 5, Len 5, Bruno 5) taking Kirsty up to a total of 40 over the two weeks.
Jay and Aliona
After 3 from the bottom half of the leaderboard it was time for the BBC to wheel out a contender and it was Jay and Aliona waltzing to See The Day.
This proved to be a very popular routine with both the public and the judges with Jay achieving a 31 (Craig 7, Darcey 8, Len 8, Bruno 8) which was the best score to date this series and placed Jay at the top of the leaderboard (for the time being) with a score of 58.
Iwan and Ola
Back onto the no hopers now and it was the turn of favourites for elimination Iwan and Ola. This week dancing a Cha Cha to Sexy And I Know It
Presumably the song choice was describing Ola who adopted the tactic of wearing as little as possible in the hopes of distracting anyone from watching Iwan. Whilst that tactic worked brilliantly for me, it didn’t with the judges and they scored a pitiful 13 (Craig 2, Darcey 4, Len 4, Bruno 3) taking their total for the two weeks to a pitiful 30.
Georgia and Giovanni
Up next it was the turn of another contender based on their week 1. Waltzing to Georgia On My Mind the BBC pun machine started smoking due to overload.
The judges didn’t rate this quite as highly as their first week but they still achieved a pretty good 25 points (Craig 6, Darcey 6, Len 6, Bruno 7) taking their total for the two weeks to 52.
Ainsley and Natalie
The BBC pun machine has exploded after Ainsley and Natalie perform a Salsa to Don’t Touch My Tomatoes.
The judges seemed to enjoy this and awarded a significant improvement in the marks when compared to week 1. 26 points (Craig 6, Darcey 7, Len 7, Bruno 6) taking Ainsley to a total of 46.
Carol and Pasha
The BBC pun machine has been replaced by a Mr Frosty and a Spirograph but still manages to deliver a Foxtrot to Isn’t This A Lovely Day. Expect a dance to It’s Raining Men at some point if they keep this up
Bottom of the leaderboard last week with just 16 points but they judges marks indicate there has been some improvement as they leap to the dizzy heights of 20 (Craig 4, Darcey 6, Len 5, Bruno 5) placing Carol on a score of 36 and no longer bottom of the leaderboard.
Kellie and Kevin
Kellie and Kevin from Grimsby next Cha Chaing to Don’t Go Breaking My Heart giving the pun machine a well earned rest.
The judges rated it a 27 (Craig 6, Darcey 7, Len 7, Bruno 7) making it identical in points to last week and sending them up to a total of 54.
Anthony and Otlile
Back to the lower part of the leaderboard with go with a waltz to If You Don’t Know Me By Now.
Still depriving Len of the “Anthony you can O Go Go Go” pun we all know he is desperate to do this scored a mediocre 19 (Craig 4, Darcey 5, Len 5, Bruno 5) putting them on 40 points for the two weeks.
Anita and Gleb
Up next it’s the turn of Anita Rani who has to go down as one of the contestants most excited to be on strictly EVER after last week. It’s always good to see someone really getting into being on Strictly. This week it was a Charleston to Pencil Full Of Lead. Charleston should suit Anita down to the ground.
The judges agreed and scored this a 27 (Craig 7, Darcey 8, Len 6, Bruno 6) placing their total on 54.
Jeremy and Karen
Back on to the no hopers and this time it was Jeremy and Karen with an American Smooth to Happy Together.
The judges didn’t rate this and Jeremy scored lower than last week with 17 (Craig 3, Darcey 5, Len 5, Bruno 4) placing their total for the week on 36.
Katie and Anton
Katie and Anton surprised a lot of people last week and the bookies have been slashing their odds in response. A lot of people think this could (finally) be Anton’s year. It’s early days yet but this partnership is looking very promising. This week it was a Tango to Telephone.
The strong partnership continues and the judges scored it a 28 (Craig 7, Darcey 7, Len 7, Bruno 7) placing them on a total of 54 for the fortnight.
Peter and Janette
Last to perform last week and second last to perform this week. At this rate Peter will be in the death slot performing first for the final. This week it’s a Quickstep to Valerie
Peter scored 30 last week and did so again this week (Craig 7, Darcey 8, Len 7, Bruno 8) placing him on a total of 60 points.
Helen and Aljaž
Finishing off the show it was your favourites from week 1 dancing a Cha Cha to Uptown Girl.
Helen scored a 29 last week and yet again the judges award the same score for a second week (Craig 7, Darcey 7, Len 7, Bruno 8) making for a total of 58.
With all the dancing done lets take a look at the week 2 leaderboard
1st Peter and Janette (60)
2nd= Jay and Aliona (58)
2nd= Helen and Aljaž (58)
4th= Kellie and Kevin (54)
4th= Anita and Gleb (54)
4th= Katie and Anton (54)
7th Georgia and Giovanni (52)
8th Daniel and Kristin (47)
9th Ainsley and Natalie (46)
10th Jamelia and Tristan (42)
11th= Kirsty and Brendan (40)
11th= Anthony and Otlile (40)
13th= Carol and Pasha (36)
13th= Jeremy and Karen (36)
15th Iwan and Ola (30)
Still a lot of ties that haven’t been broken (perhaps if the judges used more of their scoring paddles) which could make the dance off a bit of a lottery especially for people middling to bottom on the table.
