Strictly Come Dancing 2019 Finalists – Karim and Amy

With the final just a few hours away it is time for the final part in my series where I take a look at the finalists and their journey so far. Taking them in the order in which they qualified for the final we finish with Karim and Amy

Best Dance

Karim and Amy got the first 40 of the series back in musicals week when their Jive made Craig dust the cobwebs off his 10 paddle and join the other judges in awarding maximum points (10,10,10,10)

Worst Dance

Their week 3 Samba scored 26 points with the judges (6,7,6,7)

Average Score

Karim and Amy have amassed a total of 452 points from 13 routines making for an average score of 34.8. This is the 2nd highest (or 2nd lowest) average of the 3 finalists

Number Of Times In The Dance Off

Karim and Amy are the only finalists to have survived a dance off on route to the final. And they’ve survived 2 of them.

The first came in week 10 when they were joint top of the leaderboard following their Couple’s Choice in the style of Contemporary which scored 38 (9,9,10,10). Saffron and AJ fell in what was a pretty one sided dance off

They also fell into the bottom two from second on the judges leaderboard after last week’s Semi Final. Opting to perform their American Smooth again which scored 38 (9,10,9,10) they easily dispatched Chris and Karen in another one sided dance off

Odds Of Winning

Bookmakers are offing prices in the range of 12-1 on Karim and Amy lifting the Glitterball although one of my Facebook fans did say they managed to get odds of 20-1 on betting exchanges which would probably be a great opportunity to lay off for a profit during the final

Can They Win?

There are a lot of barriers for Karim and Amy to get over if they want to lift the Glitterball. Well actually that might not be true because they are a strong couple. There is however one massive barrier……

The Public!

The final is decided on public vote only and we know for a fact that Karim’s public vote is weaker than both of the other two finalists as there is no permutation of votes last weekend where Karim receives more public vote than Emma or Kelvin but still ends up in the Dance Off

Does this mean we should write them off? I’d say no. It would take a turn around in their public vote in order for them to be crowned champions but it can happen. Ore won three years ago despite landing up in the Dance Off twice just like Karim has so these things can happen. It will depend entirely on how their final goes and how many floating voters they can pick up in the final

What do you think of Karim and Amy. Will you be supporting them in the Final? You can let me know your thoughts right here in the comments section or over on Facebook or Twitter

That’s it for this series but it’s not the end of content here at the home of The Strictly Spoiler for today. My normal discussion/poll post will land later (and may land a little earlier than normal so it can be indexed by the search engines before the final) and there will be polls opening at multiple points during the final to ask who your winners are so check back for them. All polls running at the moment are going in to lockdown shortly so I can get things ready for tonight

I will also be running my usual commentary during the final on both Facebook and Twitter and you can get involved in the discussion for one last time for a chance to win an iPad. Also I’m going to resurrect the password competition for during the final for a chance to win a £50 Amazon UK Voucher. Look out for the final password on the discussion/poll post later. Entries will close at the end of the final!

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 Finalists – Emma and Anton

It’s time for part two in my series where I take a look at the finalists and their Strictly journey so far. Continuing in the order of qualification this time it is the turn of Emma and Anton

Best Dance

Emma and Anton have had three of the judges reaching for their 10 paddles with just Craig sticking to a 9. Their Charleston from Musicals’ Week which is also going to be their judges pick in tomorrow’s final scored 39 points (9,10,10,10)

Worst Dance

Their worst routine came in week 7 with their Rumba. It scored just 22 points from the judges (5,6,5,6)

Average Score

Emma and Anton have scored a total of 390 points across 13 routines which makes for an average score of 30.0. This is the lowest of all the finalists and is equal to eliminated couple Dev and Dianne and lower than eliminated couples Michelle and Giovanni and Saffron and AJ

Number Of Times In The Dance Off

Like Kelvin and Oti, Emma and Anton have never landed in the bottom two and have not faced a dance off

Odds Of Winning

Emma and Anton are 5/2 second favourites to lift the Glitterball

Can They Win?

They are currently sitting second in my poll asking who you want to win after the semi final. Despite being the weakest couple based on judges scores they have several things going for them which could result in a win.

Firstly despite being at or near the bottom of the judges leaderboard the public have consistently saved them. We know for a fact they polled better than Karim and Amy in last weekend’s Semi Final and out of the 5 possible permutations of public vote that would have resulted in last weekend’s Dance Off they outpolled Kelvin and Oti in three of them.

Add to that the narrative journey with Anton receiving his first ever 10s in 17 series of competing while partnered with Emma, this only being Anton’s second final in all those years plus both Anton and Emma are very popular and they may be a force to be reckoned with.

Whilst they may be the weakest couple on paper, it isn’t always the best dancers who win Strictly with the great British public liking a combination of dancing, personalities and the overall journey and Emma and Anton tick a lot of boxes which may get the public voting for them tomorrow.

What do you think of Emma and Anton. Will you be supporting them in the Final? You can let me know your thoughts right here in the comments section or over on Facebook or Twitter

Don’t forget to check out the final part of this series either later today or early on tomorrow where I look at Karim and Amy. And you can still vote in this week’s poll and tell me who your winner is after the semi final

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 Finalists – Kelvin and Oti

It’s time for the first part in my series where I take a brief look at the finalists and their Strictly journeys so far. I will be doing them in the order they qualified for the final so will begin with Kelvin and Oti

Best Dance

Kelvin and Oti have had all four judges reaching for their 10 paddles on one occasion this series. During last weekend’s semi final their Quickstep impressed all of the judges scoring a maximum 40 (10,10,10,10)

Worst Dance

You have to travel all the way back to week 2 of the series for their worst routine. Their Waltz scored a still respectable 28 (7,7,7,7)

Average Score

Kelvin and Oti have amassed a total of 465 points from 13 routines making for an average of 35.8. This is the highest average of the three finalists

Number Of Times In The Dance Off

Kelvin and Oti are one of two couples in the final to have never landed in the bottom two and have never faced a dance off

Odds Of Winning

Kelvin and Oti are currently odds on favourites to lift the Glitterball next weekend with bookmakers offering prices in the range of 1/3

Can They Win?

They’ve topped pretty much every poll I’ve run this series (currently sitting top with 44% in my winners poll after the semi final), are odds on favourites with the bookmakers and have been consistently near the top of the judges leaderboard. They’ve impressed pretty much from the off. All of which should make this pretty much banged on for them right?

Well I’d actually be cautious to say this is as one sided as things would suggest. This is Oti’s second final and she’s been in this position before with Danny Mac who also topped most of my polls and was consistently near the top of the leaderboard but ended up losing to outsider Ore Oduba that series.

Oti is however one of the strongest pros on the series and has formed a good, popular partnership with Kelvin and it is surely a matter of when, not if, Oti will lift the Glitterball with one of her partners. But for me there are two barriers that could make them runners up rather than winners

Firstly the public love a good journey in Strictly and love to see someone start off as a relative novice in week 1 and become a fantastic dancer by the time of the final. Kelvin has not had much of a journey though. He started off great with a score of 32 in week 1, but has only scored 40 on one occasion and in his last dance in the Semi Final scored 37. That’s only an improvement of 5 points from first to last dance (so far) and an improvement of 12 points from their lowest scoring dance to their highest. Compare that with last year’s winners Stacey and Kevin who went from scoring 20 in week 2 to 39 in the final. It’s a similar story for Joe and Katya the year before.

Secondly there is the Motsi factor. I know from comments on my social feeds and elsewhere that many people feel Motsi cannot possibly be impartial when judging her Sister and this may cause viewers to put their votes elsewhere on Saturday. I’d like to add that I don’t buy into this and apart from being a bit trigger happy with her 10 paddle in the Semi Final I think Motsi’s judging of all the couples has been fair and she has been a good replacement for Dame Darcey in my opinion. Plus Motsi judged Oti before in the German version without issues

Kelvin’s public vote has also never been tested as he has been consistently top or near the top of the judges leaderboard and as they have never been in the bottom two we can’t say too much about Kelvin’s public vote other than the fact that he polled more than fellow finalist Karim during last weekend’s semi final and out of the 5 possible permutations that would have given the dance off result we had in the semi finals Kelvin outpolls Emma in two of them. Of course he is topping my poll and the results of my poll match one of the possible permutations that would have resulted in last weekend’s dance off but my polls have been wrong before especially this series

What do you think of Kelvin and Oti. Will you be supporting them in the Final? You can let me know your thoughts right here in the comments section or over on Facebook or Twitter

Don’t forget to check out part 2 of this series in the coming days where I’ll be taking a look at Emma and Anton. And you can still vote in this week’s poll and tell me who your winner is after the semi final
