Strictly Come Dancing 2016 – Week 8 Spoilers

Blackpool is so close the remaining 8 couples can almost smell it. But one couple will not need to pack a bucket and spade as they have fallen at the final hurdle and won’t be dancing in the Tower Ballroom next weekend. But who fell and who will be enjoying having their fish and chips robbed by seagulls? The Strictly Spoiler is on hand to tell you all. So here are the results:

Greg and Daisy had to dance off. The judges saved Greg. Daisy was eliminated.

Complaints to the BBC

      1. Yes actually Ian he is. I liked Daisy but while she started at a higher level then Ed (obviously!) her dancing never really improved unlike Ed and Greg.

      2. Of course he is. Are you not listening to the judges comments and viewing their marks?

Remember that amidst their laughter the judges often remark upon the large amount of dance content involved. You may not like him (which i certainly didnt prior to the show) and consider him a joke but you cant say he hasnt improved (well, you can i suppose if it’s your opinion). He is serious and trying to improve and deserves credit for doing so especially given is age and zero experience of any format of dance.

  1. Thank you so thank you so much for finally confirming it ? As soon as one person makes a rumour the Internet explodes with it.

    1. Yeah there’s been a lot of fake spoilers this year (except here obviously).

Twitter especially is getting really bad for it and the #StrictlySpoiler hashtag is flooded with them. I think the fakes were claiming Robert Vs Ore this week

  2. Actually thought Ore might have been in danger of being in the bottom two but glad he wasn’t and happy that Greg has survived another week. Depending on how many people are in the final this year, if it’s only three then I would say it will be Danny, Louise and Claudia. If there is a fourth person in the final, I hope it’s Robert.

    1. He probably will be eliminated at Blackpool, joke acts like Ed Balls if they manage to make it to Blackpool tend to be eliminated that week. Although I would actually like to see him do a traditional dance whether it’s Latin or ballroom without the gimmicks.

      1. Well maybe they could give him some decent music then – who else would have had Amarillo for their American Smooth? Not “I actually get paid-to-dance Danny Mac” that’s for sure. And I don’t think Katya has given him gimmicks – there are solid dance steps in there unlike anything the majority of Anton’s partners over the years have managed. She deserves a lot of credit for what she has managed to turn out with Ed each week.

  3. Strictly is a dancing competition first & foremost. Entertainment yes but dancing first. Ed should go. Wrong to have better dancers eliminated rather than poorer ones.

    1. I disagree. Strictly is an entertainment show first and foremost which just happens to be about dancing. If it were a dance competition first then they wouldn’t include people like Ed. They would also get people who were either pretty close in ability, age and fitness wise, or even professional dancers competing.

Remember that Come Dancing (a serious competition) ran from the late forties right through to the nineties but was then cancelled due to dwindling viewing figures and an uninterest public. By introducing the format it has now, the show has gone from strength to strength. Everyone I know who is new to the show are tuning in purely to see Ed (or Robert) and the entertainment he brings this year. Whether you like it or not Ed is everything the show is about….pure entertainment.

      1. Have to agree I’m afraid otherwise those leaving would be so predictable and not worth watching. Having said that I feel Ed should go after Blackpool

        1. You are probably right. Of course he will go very soon now. There’s no way he would win it as the show now develops into a proper competition.

Blackpool has always been the marker. The likes of Ed have done their job. They’ve brought in the viewers for the ratings, got them hooked and now the show takes on a new mindset..

      1. I agree Ian.
Come dancing was about ballroom dancing that you or I could copy. The current format is about exhibition dancing that would require more than a lesson or two to acquire!! That’s the entertainment part – not the comic side of things. Otherwise there would be little point having judges comments based on dancing technique- though their marks don’t always reflect their comments. If I didn’t want to register a vote (or three!) I would watch on catch up so I could fast forward all the buffoonery that is being incorporated to a greater degree every year.
My opinion for what it’s worth.

        1. Sorry to disagree again Susan (I suspect we will have to agree to disagree), but if it were purely about exhibition dancing and technique, it would be the judges alone who would make the decision as to who goes, not the public. Yes there are those who vote on the serious exhibition but the masses vote solely on either popularity or entertainment value.

The ‘comedy acts’ (a bit of a disrespectful term in my view) help attract ratings. Every celeb tries their hardest and want to improve as personified by Robert. Ed and Co do not set out to be comedy acts and yet that is how they are perceived due to their lack of mobility, fitness and experience. The judges have often referenced the fact that Eds dances contain a lot of dance content which might. The fact that he may not be able to exhibit those moves in quite the same way as say Dan or Louise result in his entertainment value and false perception.

It is via the likes of Ed, Greg and Ore etc, those with no dance experience, and their continued improvement and enjoyment of dance, that attracts not only viewers but also those who take up active participation on the dance floor.

          1. Yes -agree to disagree. The comedy was mainly a reference to the awful attempts at humour. Bruce could carry it off but it’s just not funny anymore. Why we have to have a group in the background when Claudia is telling us about the voting procedures I’ll never know. Again – my opinion & im sure lots would think it’s great!!!

          2. I absolutely hated Claudia when she ruined Film 20xx but find her off the wall childish humour quite endearing. Tess on the other hand I would get rid of completely.

I agree about the group playing during the terms and conditions, you may as well not bother, though to be honest, I don’t know anyone who listens to the t&c. I thought the barbershop lot were good though.

          3. I entirely agree about the T&Cs bit as well. It’s just getting increasingly silly not to mention all the silliness drags the T&Cs out longer than necessary

      2. Disagree I’m afraid. They may advertise it as a dance competition but it’s prime intention is entertainment which in turn attracts viewing figures. The BBC state quite clearly it is an entertainment show.

The BBC want to own Saturday nights. It’s the one that everyone wants to win and serious competition wouldn’t get the ratings. Now that’s not to say it’s not serious for the competing celebs but it has to entertain a wider audience.

It’s always been my belief that Blackpool is where the show starts to take a different course. In many ways it is the first final of two. The BBC have attracted the ratings who should now stay with the show to the end and it is no surprise that Blackpool sees the demise of the ‘no hopers’. The wider audience have been attracted via the entertainment value and will carry that mindset through to the end of the second final. The one that is for the glitterball trophy.

      3. Agree, if it isn’t a dance competition why call it “Strictly Come DANCING” if it isn’t a dance competition change the name to “Strictly Come and look an idiot”

    2. So licence fee-paying viewers shouldn’t be allowed to vote for who they want? Ed’s been bottom of the leaderboard every week but one, he’s being kept in by the people at home who are probably being entertained by him, not the judges whose scores have been low (although I have to say some of the marks have been ridiculous, he’s still been last based on judges’ scores nearly every week, so my point still stands).

    3. I’d say it’s an entertainment show based around dance. If professional dance competitions were so popular then surely they would have a prime time slot whenever the competitions are held. Let’s face it, would a professional dance couple score an 8 from Len if they produced the same dance as Ed in a championship event? The judges are as much part of the entertainment as the dancers themselves. Enjoy it for what it is.

  4. Ed, having been found surplus to requirements in Parliament and doubtless getting under the feet of his delightful wife Ophelia, has been able to devote many hours per day to the practice of his next prance – I’m so sorry, dance – unlike others who have to find time alongside earning a living. It would be surprising if he hadn’t improved by some small measure over the last few weeks … Katya deserves some kind of national award for service above and beyond for having to put up with the unconscionable oaf for so long.
